Biografie
Dominican soprano Nathalie Peña-Comas, a Latin Grammy nominee, is widely recognised as one of the most distinctive artistic voices of her generation from the Caribbean. Born in Santo Domingo, she received her first musical training at the National Conservatory of Music, studying piano and flute. She later continued her artistic development in Europe and graduated with honours from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, earning Bachelor’s degrees in Voice and Piano Pedagogy. Masterclasses with internationally renowned artists further shaped her formation, and since 2018 she has worked under the artistic guidance of Maestra Irina Gavrilovici.
Peña-Comas appears regularly across Europe and the Americas. Her concert repertoire ranges from sacred music to major symphonic works, including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mozart’s Requiem, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. Within this breadth she combines technical clarity with an immediate, communicative presence.
On stage she is admired for a repertoire that unites lyrical refinement with dramatic intensity. Her roles include Pamina in The Magic Flute, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Musetta in La bohème, Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Violetta Valéry in La traviata, and Micaëla in Carmen. In 2025 she appears as Violetta at the Vienna Opera Summer festival.
She has collaborated with orchestras such as the Wiener Concert Verein, the Strauss Festival Orchestra Vienna, the Dominican Republic National Symphony Orchestra, and leading European philharmonic ensembles. She has worked with internationally recognised conductors and shared the stage with artists including Ramón Vargas, Gregory Kunde, Andrea Bocelli, and Plácido Domingo Jr. In May 2023 she was Guest of Honour at the Vienna Opera Ball in New York.
Awards and competition distinctions form an important part of her profile. Alongside her Latin Grammy nomination, she has received multiple Premio Soberano awards as Classical Singer of the Year, and she has earned prizes at international opera competitions, further confirming her artistic stature on the international scene.
