Biografie
Francisca Gavilán Zurita is a Spanish flautist distinguished by an exceptional sense of tone, refined musical sensitivity and a strongly narrative approach to performance. Her artistry combines technical assurance with emotional depth and subtle nuance, resulting in interpretations that are both immediately engaging and lasting in their impact. She regards music as a living language capable of conveying emotion and evoking inner imagery.
She began her musical training in Spain, where her special affinity for the flute became evident at an early stage. The steady development of her artistic career led her to international stages, where she has appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras and ensembles. These include the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Orquesta Internacional de Directores de Orquesta, international Russian chamber orchestras and the Orchestra of the Cabildo de CĂłrdoba.
A particular highlight of her career was her performance in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. As part of the concert project “Emotions”, conducted by Francisco Navarro Lara, she performed together with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir. Her interpretation of the “Benedictus” from The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins demonstrated her ability to shape music of profound stillness and spiritual depth with great expressive clarity.
A defining element of her artistic profile is her instrument – a golden flute whose warm, resonant and richly coloured sound plays a central role in shaping her distinctive tonal language. Her playing is characterised by clarity, depth and a high degree of sensitivity, enabling her to shape musical tension and phrasing with refinement and expressive power.
Alongside large-scale orchestral and choral projects, Francisca Gavilán Zurita is deeply engaged in chamber music and solo repertoire. At the Wiener Konzerthaus she presented the programme “Love & Dreams” in collaboration with Francisco Navarro Lara, combining classical works with selected film music and creating musical narratives that move between intimacy, memory and imagination. Her repertoire includes core works of the flute literature as well as carefully crafted arrangements that emphasise the dialogic nature of her artistic work.
Francisca Gavilán Zurita understands music as both a personal and a universal language. Through her playing, she invites audiences not merely to listen, but to experience music as an emotional journey – immediate, touching and enduring.
